Mr. Rastegar is an experienced litigator practicing in the areas of family law, probate and estates, personal injury, civil rights and tort claims, general civil litigation, immigration, and criminal defense (misdemeanor). As Of Counsel with DMV Law Center & Associates, Mr. Rastegar focuses his practice on immigration, family, and criminal law.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Rastegar worked for several years at two large international law firms in the top 25 of the Am Law 100 rankings where he advised Fortune 500 clients in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and life sciences industries on a myriad of topics, including qui tam litigation and government investigations related to fraud and abuse—Mr. Rastegar worked on a False Claims Act case in federal court which was one of the largest ever of its kind; due diligence and change of ownership analyses for healthcare-related corporate transactions; providing general regulatory advice to many types of clients; reviewing and preparing commercial contracts in complex healthcare contracts and agreements; and assisting clients with licensure requirements for skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation agencies, hospices, and home health agencies. For several years before attending law school, Mr. Rastegar was a consultant and government contractor for various agencies of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. During this time, he also earned a Master of Public Health from The George Washington University.
From his first opportunity to do so (as a summer associate in law school), Mr. Rastegar has maintained a very active pro bono practice which has provided the opportunity to work with underserved members of our vibrant community. His pro bono practice has also helped to hone his skills as a litigator and learn different areas of the law, including, among other things, family law and guardian ad litem; immigration law; employment discrimination (earning him the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs Outstanding Achievement Award in the fields of Equal Employment Opportunity and Immigration & Refugee Rights for an employment discrimination matter in federal court); veterans’ benefit denial appeals before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; prisoner parole hearings; and representation of prisoners in parole hearings. As a first-generation immigrant himself (moving to the US at the age of two), Mr. Rastegar appreciates the opportunity to represent those who hope to make a better life in this country.
Mr. Rastegar received his juris doctorate at Howard University School of Law. In law school, Mr. Rastegar received the CALI Award (highest grade) for his work representing indigent clients through the Fair Clinic. As a law student, Mr. Rastegar had the privilege to clerk for Judge Gerald Bruce Lee (since retired) in the Eastern District of Virginia, affectionately known as the “Rocket Docket.” During law school, Mr. Rastegar was also an editor of the Human Rights and Globalization Law Review and member of the Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity, the Muslim Law Students Association, and the Black Law Students Association.
Mr. Rastegar is a proud native of the DC Metropolitan area and thus a long-suffering fan of the Redskins, Capitals, Wizards, and Nationals. Aside from sports, during his downtime, he enjoys movies, comedy shows, live music, reading, and traveling.
